my friend, Lauren, turned 30 today. She decided to have a a pool party
at her mom's with all her friends and then she and her husband performed
for us. It was awesome!
I spent the morning canning all those tomatoes. And I have to tell you
it was so therapeutic!! I love canning and at the end it is extremely
gratifying to see all those filled jars!!!
Jared's french horn was out of state being repaired and was due to
arrive today. I had to sign for it which meant I had to be home. No
worries, Fed Ex always delivers in the mornings here.......not today. I
sat around ALL day and they finally came at 4:30pm. sheesh!
After 3 weeks of not exercising, I got my shoes on and headed to the
gym. Why is it SO HARD to get back into exercising but SO EASY to get
out of it?!!!
It was so wonderful to have Lee and LeAnne at church on Sunday! They
are on furlough from China and it was so great to hear their stories and
see how God is working through them!
It was so sad for me to drive away and see Steve's mom standing on the
stoop alone. I know she will do well, but these next days will be the
hardest I think. I appreciate your prayers for her as she makes this
transition to this new phase in her life.
Joe was catholic, so today we had a mass for him. None of our family
attended this parish (Joe did not go to mass much), but this church was
so wonderful to us!
The funeral has been set for Friday so that Joe's son (who arrived just
hours after he passed) could attend. Which meant that I would have to
make the 7 hour drive again tomorrow and then drive back home on
Saturday. I wasn't sure I was up for that, but our good friend,
Stephen, offered to fly me. What a huge gift that was for me!!!
I had never flown in a small plane before but it was so fun!! And gave
me the ability to face the next two days a bit less tired! What a
blessing it is to have such great friends! Thanks Leah and Stephen!!!
My
good friend, LeAnne (to the right of the baby), is home on furlough
from the mission field. I was so happy to be home in time to see her at
this fun get together!!
I drove home today and left Steve and Alyssa with his mom. Did you
know that you could rent books on CD from Crackerbarrel and then return
it to ANY Crackerbarrel in the US for just $3.49? I rented this book
and thoroughly enjoyed it on the 7 hour drive home. It definitely kept
me awake.

This is what is getting me through these days.......my time with God.
Joe's calcium levels are down, but he is not waking up. The doctor
believes he won't and that this is not reversable. Since he is not
awake, he is not able to receive chemo. The doctor is a christian and
told Sue if it were his dad, he would not do any more. This was a very
sad day, as we decided to take Joe off everything and move him to
hospice.
I am not sleeping well and needed this coffee today. I really needed
about 4 cups though because my MIL uses coffee with 50% caffeine. Today
we found out that Joe has multiple myeloma, a bone marrow cancer. It
is the cause of his high levels of calcium. We will be meeting with the
oncologist tomorrow.
Soooo tired today. Joe is not waking up like they keep saying he will
and we still don't have any answers. Tonight I just needed to put my
feet up and rest.
No change in my FIL. His calcium levels have started to come down but
he is still not waking up. This picture cracks me up. This is how my
MIL walks around the house carrying her phones.....so cute!
My FIL is in CCU. He is mostly unresponsive but when I got there, he
turned his head to me and smiled!!! A gift for sure. They are running
lots of test on him to find out why his calcium and sodium levels are so
high....the reason they think he is not responding.
Our church secretary came back from maternity leave and I finally got
to hold this sweet, sweet boy!!! She will be bringing him to work with
her, so I hope to do more of this!! :)
Right after noon, I got a call that my FIL, who had been in rehab, was
not responsive and was being taken to the ER. I was planning to leave
on Tuesday to go help my MIL, but hopped in the car and left today....so
glad I did.
We are using a VBS program for our Summer Sunday school. While we were
gone last week, my amazingly talented friend, Denise, decorated our
Sunday School hall for me!!! It looks so great!
The Bunn is our coffee maker..which broke...so my son brought his coffee
maker downstairs for us to use till we get the part to fix ours. The
espresso machine was what my son purchased on Ebay while we were
gone.....of course he wants to keep it in the kitchen.
We DO like coffee in our house, but this is ridiculous!!!
Today we drove back to LR. What should have been a 10 hour drive ended
up being over 14 hours....ugh. So much traffic, accidents and
construction...this was our view several times over the day!
But all the delays let us view this GORGEOUS sunset over the Arkansas River!
Today, we said goodbye to our friends and drove to Anderson to pick up
Jared. They put on a small program to show us what they had learned
over the four days. It was fun watching Jared completely in his
element. We spent the evening with Rita and Mike and played a pretty
crazy game of Nertz! What a blessing it is to know them!!
Our good friend, Mark, is here visiting us from Indiana. I loved this
picture of them all just hanging by the pool. It is so great to have
him here with us!!
Tonight my neighbor and I threw a Going-Away cocktail party for the
sweet couple in the middle. They are moving from our neighborhood to
Houston and we are SO SAD to see them go!!
